The back story of ibisrides and its namesake.

ibis:  a bird that loves to flock together.

Ibis are found in warm coastal areas in the U.S., the Caribbean, Australia and along the Mediterranean Sea.  One thing about the quirky looking ibis, they like to hang together.

People wearing colorful spandex shorts and jerseys, hunched over a bike may look a bit quirky to the masses.  However, if you are one of those outfitted riders, you look for others you can flock with on rides.

But where do you find those group rides, routes and events?  Where is a group ride that fits your pace?

I’ve been leading and riding in groups for over 30 years including century charity rides, triathlons, and special events.  However, when I moved to South Central Florida I had to start all over to find group rides and events that fit my pace.  And where were there some great trails and routes to explore?  I spent a lot of hours searching online, talking to bike shops and randomly bumping into a group of riders.

An idea popped up.  Why not create a website dedicated to listing group bike rides, events and routes that would be the one place, the one source, where fellow cyclists could find “their ride” and save them hours of searching.

So, what should it be called?  One day while searching online for rides, with not much luck, I looked out the window of our Florida home.  A flock of ibis walked by.  Later that day I saw them take off in a group.  Beautiful.  They clearly love to flock and fly together.  Voila, the name.

So, enjoy searching ibisrides.com for your ride, route, trail or event and get out there having fun riding with other avid cyclists.

Hope to see you out there on the roads, trails and paths.  Lots to explore in Florida.  Be safe.
